3/12/2024 0 Comments Ruger p89 serial number history![]() Mine is older, but the MecGar mags for the newer guns work just fine. If you get one, check the serial number against Ruger's website and make sure you get the correct mags. As was noted above, older guns below a certain serial number use a different mag than newer guns. I have several and, like the factory mags, perfectly reliable. IIRC, MecGar also still makes 17 or 18 rd flush mags for the 9mm P Series. Turned a perfectly reliable gun into a jam-o-matic. I've tried most of the others and they were junk. If you get one, only use factory Ruger or MecGar mags. Kinda neat that the gun ran perfectly fine with a substantial part of the slide missing. They then fired some ungodly amount of ammo through the gun with no problems at all. After replacing the extractor, they then went on to shoot some ungodly amount of ammo through the gun without any problems.Īnother test was to completely cut away the portion of the slide below the ejection port. IIRC, the extractor blew out and that was it. One of the tests involved threading the inside of the barrel for a bolt, then screwing the bolt in to about 1/2" ahead of the bullet point. When they were introduced, several gun rags had articles where Ruger tested the durability. Accurate enough, boringly reliable (with good mags) and durable as hell. While they are chunky and a little clunky, they are good guns.
